Our Lady Mother of Mercy Praesidium

Our Lady Mother of Mercy Praesidium (Parish group) was established in St. Oliver Plunkett Parish in 2013.

Being a member of the Legion of Mary involves attending a weekly meeting and doing a duty for about 2 hours each week. A Legionary always does their duty with another Legionary, just as Jesus sent the Apostles out in twos.

Our duties involve visiting homes in the Parish with the Statue of Our Lady of Fatima and gifts of framed Divine Mercy Images. We promote the Divine Mercy Chaplet, the Holy Rosary, the Miraculous Medal and the use of Holy Water.

We believe The Holy Spirit guides us to the right homes at the right times. Almost always people we visit are respectful and friendly. It is a privilege when someone invites us into their home. It is very rewarding to sit and talk to people about God and His Holy Mother and to just be present for people to share with you what is going on in their lives.

Eucharistic Adoration, that is, sitting in front of Jesus truly present in the Blessed Sacrament, is very special to the members of our Praesidium. St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta said: “The time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the best time you will spend on earth. Each moment that you spend with Jesus will deepen your union with Him and make your soul everlastingly more glorious and beautiful in Heaven, and will help bring about everlasting peace on earth.”

Some members also organise a Holy Hour on Monday evenings at 7.30pm in St. Oliver Plunkett Church.

We meet together on Wednesdays at 7.30pm (except first Wednesday of the month) in St. Oliver Plunkett Church (the Parish Hall room). Please come along to one of our meetings to find out more. Our meetings are very enjoyable, you will be made to feel very welcome and you can decide if Our Lord and Our Blessed Lady are calling you to be a part of Our Lady’s Legion.
