The month Mary
calls her own

Dear {{name}},

In every parish, in every legionary's home, May begins quietly — a fresh flower placed beside an image of Our Lady, a rosary picked up earlier than usual, a candle lit at the May altar. Across the centuries the Church has set this month apart, not because Mary needs our devotion, but because we need her.

She is the woman through whom God chose to enter the world. She is the first disciple, the silent companion at Cana, at the Cross, at the upper room. And she is the Mother who, from the wood of the Cross, was given to each of us.

A whisper in the heart

Perhaps you are reading this because, some weeks or months ago, you stopped to listen. You read about the Legion of Mary, or attended a retreat, or knew someone who quietly served their parish under her banner — and something stirred.

That stirring is rarely a thunderclap. More often it is a whisper. The whisper of a Mother who has noticed you, and who has work for you to do.

The Legion is not a society for the perfect. It is a school of holiness for ordinary Catholics — men, women, the young, the retired — who simply offer Our Lady two hours of their week, and let her form them. The visits to the sick, the conversations on the streets, the rosaries in care homes — they are how she still walks the diocese.

Not ready to commit? You can become an auxiliary member — supporting the work in prayer alone.

This month — a small May practice

Pick one. Don't try them all. Just one.

• Pray the Sub tuum praesidium every morning until the end of May.
• Add the Memorare to your evening prayer.
• Place a fresh flower beside an image of Mary in your home each Sunday.
• Pray one decade of the Rosary walking — wherever you happen to be.

She does not need much. She does not need anything. But she will not refuse the smallest gesture made in love.
